Rotorua Region Trout Fishing

Trout fishing at WaitetiThe Rotorua Lakes district has 14 fishable lakes within a 30 min drive and offers a range of fishing experiences. Many of these lakes and their tributaries (streams) produce quality trophy trout and are world renowned.

The spring fed Waiteti Stream, one of the regions premier trout fishing streams, flows through the Holiday Park with direct access to Lake Rotorua by boat or pathway (250 metres). The stream is open for fishing throughout the year with large schools of trout sitting in the pools on the Park property during the summer months (Dec – April) when the Lake warms up. This makes Waiteti Trout Stream Holiday Park an ideal base for fishermen and fishing groups with a range of accommodation options. Not to mention our fish preparation area/ free fish smoker and free advice from Harvey Clark, the Trout Man who operates Affordable Fishing Tuition and Charters on site.

Trout fishing at WaitetiLake Rotorua is the largest lake in the region, but also one of the shallowest at an average depth of 11.25 metres and 25 metres at its deepest. The lake is fed by 8 streams which creates excellent spawning conditions. Hatchery reared trout are released into the lake every year which means high catch rates. Lake Rotorua fishes especially well in the winter months when Rainbow trout spawn around the stream mouths.
